In 1995 the Marshalltown Area United Way established a foundation after receiving a $5,000 gift in memory of a Donor's family member. Currently the foundation has over $130,661 earning interest.

The foundation was established and set up so people or corporations would have an option to make a sizable donation with only the interest generated from the gift being used in the annual campaign. The gift becomes a perpetual gift in helping to support the annual campaign.

Only 75% of the interest generated from foundation gifts are used, the other 25% is put back with the original gift so that it may continue to grow over the years.
