The mission of the center is to empower peers and help them improve their well-being and their quality of life through education, advocacy, and support. The center provides a central location for information on mental illness and recovery for individuals, family members and the public and to fight the stigma of mental illness through community outreach and community involvement.
This center is the first of it's kind in Marshalltown, and in 2015 the center had 392 visits by 59 different people. We are trying to broaden our presence in the community by reaching out to the hospital, churches and other agencies in Marshalltown.
1. Decrease hospitalizations for mental illness
2. Decrease social isolation
3. Increase the number of times positive coping skills learned and used by members
