ACCESS, the Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support, has been providing services to victims for forty years in the central Iowa area. Established as a rape crisis center in 1974, ACCESS grew to provide both sexual assault and domestic violence services, including opening a shelter facility in 1981. ACCESS serves Marshall, Tama, Story, Boone and Greene Counties.
Our Mission:
The Mission of ACCESS is to address the roots and impact of domestic and sexual violence through services that enhance safety, empower survivors, and promote understanding and social justice within our community.
Services:
- Sexual Abuse Services: A Comprehensive response to victims shortly after an assault, or later in life after experiencing forms of sexual abuse. Advocacy focuses on helping a survivor process the abuse, seek medical care, or seek safety and justice through legal systems.
- Domestic Abuse Services: Services are centered around empowering a victim who has experienced abuse within a family or intimate relationship. Services include safety planning, counseling, medical/legal advocacy, and helping the victim increase support.
- Safe Housing/Shelter Services: ACCESS aids survivors in finding a safe and stable place to reside while fleeing from abuse or after the abuse has left the survivor with limited resources. This may include shelter, financial assistance, or assistance in seeking affordable housing.
