At Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters, we believe every child has the potential to shine. Our mission is to ignite that power through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring. By partnering with parents, volunteers, and the community, we empower local youth to build higher aspirations, greater confidence, and stronger relationships.
Our "Littles" (ages 6–18) often face unique challenges at school or home. As a "Big," you aren’t there to be a teacher or a disciplinarian. You are a friend who consistently shows up. Whether you’re sharing a hobby, celebrating a small win, or simply listening, your presence can change a child’s trajectory before they ever lose their way.
With flexible programs designed for busy schedules, it’s easy to get involved. You can mentor at school or in the community, either on your own or as a "Big Couple." We have multiple program types to ensure that volunteering can fit into any lifestyle. As our mentors quickly discover, the impact of these relationships is mutual; while they provide guidance, they gain a profound sense of purpose and connection. It takes Little to be Big!
