MIW, Inc. provides vocational services to individuals with disabilities. Two programs are provided: one is Prevocational/Organizational Employment, which is CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited. This program takes place among the community. Within it, individuals are provided opportunities to be of the community and to build work skills. Building work skills includes completing tasks on-site, volunteering at local sites, learning how to access job placement websites on the computer, greeting customers or visitors, and touring local employers to find out about area job opportunities.
The second program at MIW, Inc. provides a Supported Employment program for individuals with disabilities. MIW also has been accredited with Community Employment Services: Employment Supports, and Job Development through CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). The Supported Employment program will be used to assist participants to learn to apply job development skills such as interviewing, completing a job application, and/or writing a resume. These skills will be learned during MIW’s Employment Preparation class. In addition, MIW staff will “job coach” and help with team-building skills, which includes interaction with supervisors and co-workers. The goal is successful placement in and with the community. In other words, employment!
